ABOUT
FUNCTION FIRST
Function First Spine and Sport was established in 2021 by Dr. Cynthia VanSickler. She is a licensed chiropractor in the state of Iowa, serving the people of Humboldt County and Webster County, as well as surrounding areas. The mission of Function First is to educate and empower patients to help heal their musculoskeletal conditions. Our approach is different than your standard chiropractic office. We address pain and dysfunction by first properly assessing it via the McKenzie Method of Decompressive Therapy. We look at the full picture of the condition, all the way from how it started to what it presents like on the day of your visit.

Dr. Cindy is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician who has been specializing in sports injury and rehabilitation since 2014. The Function First assessment is what sets the clinic apart to help with the treatment of sports related/soft tissue injuries. We use Functional Movement Screens to look at the biomechanics of common athletic movements. Based on findings from the screens, we then can determine what led to the weaknesses or compensations that caused the athlete to have an injury.

When it comes to the treatment of non-sports related injuries, we approach it in the same problems solving manner. We look to see how the patient moves and then develop a specific treatment plan for the patient based on their particular presentation. We believe in the body's ability to heal itself, we just help by giving the person the proper tools.
